No Luck for Free Previews
I tried to see the preview for Cloverfield last night. My brother got there 45min early to save a place in line and we missed it by 10 people. The Paramount rep handed out fliers that said if you go to www.gofobo.com you can register for free preview passes that get emailed to you (print on your PC with a bar code). Sounded like a cool idea, Hoorah Hollywood! But if you go to the site its locked down!
Please don't Voicemail my Google Chat
Please oh please, no matter how much time you 'think' it will save both of us don't leave a voice message to me on Google Chat. I love to use Google products and sure I get excited when new features come out but it doesn't mean that you have to use all of them.
There is a reason why I have and use chat both on my laptop, desktop and Blackberry. There is a reason I have dozens of email addresses and yes there is a reason I only have ONE phone.
Bionic Woman Needs to Work Out
Okay maybe it's just me but I thought the Bionic Woman was like bionically strong or something. But after watching a few shows I think her software has a glitch. I say a glitch because that is the only way that I can rationalize what I see on the screen. You see one minute she can kick in this huge metal door or bend steel but then she has to kick and punch the same bad guy like 20 times. Do you sense some discontinuity?
Hilton's HHonor Points and American Airlines travel
So I have an account with Hilton's HHonors reward system and I am a Platinum Flier with American Airlines. Hilton offers what they call a 'double dip' system where they will give you points for your hotel stay AND also put free air miles into your frequent flier account. They are partnered with just about every major airline so finding yours is no big deal.
Where is my room?
I recently stayed at a Hilton property,
Ford is not the World's Greatest Bond Car
I just watched 007 Casino Royal and I really did appreciate that it was a 'darker film' than some of the more recent Bond flicks. There had turned more and more cartoonish as the series progressed.
This next version was edgy and hard where the other were not with less CGI effects and more real action scenes. I think the film should have gone back in time by setting the film in the middle of the Cold War. It was already presenting itself as the beginning of Bond by giving him his 'double O' status at the very start of the film.
When fiction becomes fact
Here is an article about a book that I think I will read (great for a rainy weekend)...
"The Yale Book of Quotations" has a simple thesis: famous quotes are often misquoted and misattributed. Sometimes they are never said at all but are, instead, little fictions that have forged their way into public consciousness.
Reuter's Article by Arthur Spiegelman: New book takes humbug out of quotations
The book discusses numerous famous quotes and their true historical origins, many of which did not come the popular authors. It appears to be an interesting look not just on facts, which I love to read about, but more importantly how time and social situations can alter historical fact to the point that fiction is the historical fact.
For instance NASA audio engineers have recently proven that the famous moon landing speech was in fact delivered correctly... "one small step for A man". Makes you wonder how many other facts are only facts because everyone says that they are?
Mobile Barcoder - USA missing more cellphone features
It seems that I am constantly amazed by two things: The really cool features found on overseas mobile phones and 2) that US phones are constantly lagging behind.
With the way that US markets devour techie gadgets with disposable incomes, I am always surprised that companies don't include these features right away. Even 6-12 months later would be one thing, normally "IF" the US gets a feature it will be about 2 years after the fact.
