This is a poem I wrote back in the early 90's

“The last time that I saw Paris”

The last time that I saw Paris You were standing next to me.
You told of how much you loved And how we were meant to be.
We were talking and laughing together But I can’t remember one word.
We held each other forever Remembering the things unheard.
We kissed with every drink We kissed at every thought.
All of Paris could not afford The kisses that we brought.
What is this city of Paris With two lovers from a distant land?
She, a woman with desire And he just a lonely man.
The last time that I saw Paris You were crying in my arms.
The last time that I saw Paris You were dying in my arms.
You breathed you last breath And told of how much you love.
The Paris that you died for Is the one I’m dreaming of.
I stayed at your side for hours Unable to turn away,
Afraid to leave you forever Until I’d had my say.
I cried and cried for all my blame But you couldn’t hear how tough,
It was to say I’m sorry, But mostly for not loving you enough.
The last time that I saw Paris, It did not look the same,
Now that I set roses Beneath where lies your name.
Oh, I wish that you could see, Please won’t you come and see,
The Paris that was meant to be.
